Indoor green plants: natural air purifier

Do you realize that some plants can play the role of natural air purifiers? Indoor air pollution is a serious problem in many communities, especially in urban communities. Some indoor sources of pollution, such as formaldehyde in paint, have caused controversy. There are a lot of air filters on the market. If you choose to raise a few pots of plants that can purify the air, you can save a lot of money and bring warmth to your home and office. Why not?

I recommend three very important plants, which are the tiger-tailed orchid, the sage, and the green radish. These plants are both common and cheap. It is especially effective to place these plants together because they have different effects. NASA has studied this and found that they can absorb different toxins and release oxygen day and night. Recently, Indian scientists gave a speech at TED, mentioning that they had tested the three plants for 15 years in a building in the commercial centre of New Delhi. The building has a 20-year history of 50,000 square feet and has approximately 1,200 plants in 300 stations. Later, the Indian government named the building the healthiest building in New Delhi. The findings were published jointly by the Government of India, the Central Pollution Control Commission and the National Cancer Research Centre of India.

The study found that after staying in the building for 10 hours, the probability of a 1% increase in blood oxygen concentration was 42%. Compared to other buildings in New Delhi that are not planted, this “plant building” can effectively alleviate the following symptoms:

Eye irritation: 52%
Breathing problem: 34%
Headache: 24%
Lung injury: 12%
Asthma: 9%
According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) industry standard, no less than 15-20 cubic feet of fresh air should be input into the office building every minute. After using green plants, this “plant building” is satisfied. A standard saves 15% of energy. This should not be underestimated, knowing that 40% of the world's energy is used to ensure the office environment. The most surprising thing is that human resource efficiency has also increased by 20%, mainly because of the reduction in the number of days for employees to take sick leave and the increase in personal productivity.
